23-Jan-2010 - New board online
|
Although such maintenance work had low priority, I finally made the decision to update the board to the newest verion. Recently, there have been lot of bot problems, and because of some server migrations, there even have been problem with special characters (especially important for German, of course). Unfortunatelly, the previous board version has reached the end of its life cycle, and the new version has been mostly incompatible. Therefore, the maintenance has not been trivial and it took some annoying days. Hopefully, it is worth the effort, and the new version runs stable and holds bots off. |
12-Jan-2010 - Update on the progress
|
Well, I have promised to report soon, and that's how it should be. The development, especially during the holidays, has made great process.
Without getting lost in details too much, I can report that the data model is now working again, which means that I can create sound libaries (version 2) again and save it in XML format. In addition, I am happy that the graphical user interface ist also compatible with new operating systems very well. As soon as I have another two more weeks vacation in one piece, I will reactivate windows, controls, etc. In the meantime, I have to work on a general system for processing jobs (playing music and sounds) which can be used later for managing the sound engine more easily. Because my work also consists of external projects (including open source), such things take up a lot of time (portability, documentation, etc).
I have also promised to dare a prediction about the duration of the remaining development. Provided I don't have to interrupt the project again, loyal fans can expect a first working verion in the first quarter of 2011. In the meantime, I will continue with showing signs of life and providing comments. Unfortunately, most of my comments will remain in the German section of our board.

02-Sep-2009 - Restarting
|
Hi RPG-SoundMixer community,
two long years have passed by now, and these pages had to get along without me. I was not able to work on RPG-SoundMixer in the past years. To be exact, I was only able to look after some sub projects, which are used by RPG-SoundMixer as well. I was travelling a lot, had too much jobs and, in addition, lots of private issues are left behind as well. All of this is not a thing of the past yet, however, at least important milestones have been reached in other project resp. I even could finish some of them. Therefore, it is now time to spend many of my evenings for RPG-SoundMixer again.
The next topic, which has to be done now, is to renew the source code, because many implemented technologies have changed quite a lot over the past years. Perhaps, some people remember the preview of RPG-SoundMixer 2.0, which was put online years ago. The aim now is to make it executable again in order to finish the whole project at the end. Thereby, new features are not the only focus any more - they are grounded in the new architecture for ages - but also full compatibility with Windows Vista and Windows 7, of course. Unfortunatelly, that means that I have to acquire both systems. The reason for all those problems is a new sound driver model, which has been changed a lot since Vista.
The traffic on our board (especially for English language) has dropped a lot. However, there is still life and I want to thank the community for that. At this place, I want to indicate that it is now much more difficult to become a member of the community. Spam problems have been defeated, but there are still many so-called bots which register as user (also with help of humans) in order to spread their garbage all over internet boards. Therefore, community members are hand-picked for a long time now, which also means that some real requests are rejected accidently. So I ask you to choose a profile name in proper style and also provide minimal additional information (e.g. a signature).
Hopefully, I can report soon how fast the project can be continued. Again many thanks to all faithful supporters and dedicated role-play gamers!

14-Aug-2007 - The next news
|
The next news will not be presented until about three months. The work on RPG-SoundMixer are still in progress, but only very slowly lately.
I am terribly sorry!

15-Oct-2006 - Good old Germany
|
Finally, I am back home from Canada, healthy and safely, of course. It is really an amazing, beautiful, and especially adventurous country. However, the disadvantage of my journey was that I had bags of work to do, so it was very quiet here. I had only some time to post some board messages, nothing else.
Fortunately, times change, and now it is time for continuing the development of the RPG-SoundMixer. In the next two weeks, I will continue work at exactly the point I left it in the beginning of May. Afterwards, I will finish the layout and complete the feature list.
I will continue this report soon.
