Choosing sound-effects
Previous  Top  Next

After a sound-event is activated, each sound-bank waits until its appropriate start time to play its sound-effect(s) (depending on the defined settings; q.v. Creating and editing a new sound-bank).

In order to edit the list of sound-effects, you first have to enter the sound-effect subfolder containing the desired MP3/WAV files. Click the "Select folder..." button, and a "folder selection" window will open.

Note: You can only select a folder located within the displayed sound-effect root folder or one of its subfolders (q.v. Adjusting folders).

Attention: Use of larger MP3 files may slow RPG-SoundMixer down dramatically, since the files in a sound-event have to be decoded entirely in the computer's memory.

To preview a file, it has to be selected from the "Sound-effect - Files" list. Now it can be played by clicking the "Play file" button. The "Play sound-effect" button allows you to play already "selected files" with all selected options you have chosen for them.

To add a file to the list of selected files, select it in the file list and then click on the "Add to list >>" button. Pressing the shift or CTRL key will allow you to select multiple files, like any other Windows program. Files can be removed from the list by clicking the
"<< Remove from list" button.

The sound-bank will select a sound-effect to play based on the "probablility" selected in the file list - they are randomly chosen (q.v. What are probabilities?). In order to change the probability of a file, select the respective file and click the "Change probability >>" button. An alternative way of changing a probability would be to double-click on the "probability" percentage, then enter the new probability in the window. Remember that you can change multiple files' probabilities by pressing and holding the Shift / CTRL key while clicking. Alternatively, you can use the "Probabilities (all) >>" button. After clicking this button, you will be asked to enter the probabilities for all sound-effects in this group.

After you have selected all of your sound files, you can determine sound-effect settings by clicking on the "sound-effect settings" button (q.v. Sound-effect settings). There, you can fine-tune the files.

Note: This button is deactivated when you have selected more than one files since the computer doesn't know which file you would like to change.
